BTW i had mine apart the other day(petcock) and the selector is not quite accurate. pointing it towards to "O" in the word on is exactly on center of the on position hole. while prime and reserve are in the proper positions. are you sure it's not spark break down due to a weak coil or ignitor/pickup unit or bad plug at those higher speeds ? the vacumn activated petcock is either working or it is not... there is really no inbetween. IF the diaphragm gets hard the bike wont run properly and if it gets torn it will run wild and suck gas through the vacumn line. leaving it in prime simply opens the vacumn diaphragm without vacumn. it is possible that if left in prime the bowl could over flow on extreme angles or if the float needle is worn/siezed. but a fire? well... maybe but not very likely.
